What My Clients Left in 2025

Although I’m not much of a trend-follower, I’ve been enjoying some of the new year social media trends I’ve been seeing, like the “what I left in 2025” compilations that have filled my Instagram feed this month. I didn’t participate (because I was too busy falling down the rabbit hole that was 2016), but if I had created a list of things I left in 2025, it probably would’ve included:

  • Adding collagen to my morning coffee (not convinced)

  • Saving bougie body lotions to use as a treat (use them daily instead)

  • Going to bed after my 12-year-old

  • Feeling obligated to cook a healthy dinner for my family every weeknight (I think our favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant approves)

  • Ignoring my raging menopause symptoms (of which there are suddenly 14 thousand billion with new ones popping up on the daily)

I think I’m drawn to the general theme of “what I left behind” because it aligns with the simple idea that you should stop doing things when they no longer work for you.

That’s exactly where my clients often are when we start working together.

My Clients Left These Feelings About Their Personal Style in 2025

  • “Never ‘truly dressed’”

  • “Stressed”

  • “In a rush”

  • “Frustrated and aimless”

  • “Tired of wearing the same things, feel plain”

  • “Mom in survival mode”

  • “Basic”

Candidly, these are some of the tamer sentiments women shared with me, but you get the idea. And maybe you can relate?

Goodbye, “Mom in Survival Mode”

Allow me to introduce you to one of my clients. She felt frustrated and aimless when she got dressed, so she scheduled a discovery call with me.

As a mom of two young children, she recognized that her personal style fell by the wayside when she became a mom. She was at a point where she felt like she could fake it for work, but her job puts her in front of strangers and she was conscious of wanting to make the right impression. Still, she really struggled to dress for anything outside of work—weekend activities with her kids, date night with her husband, social events for work. And—as I hear over and over again from midlife women I work with—she had no desire to wear yoga pants every day.

I wasn’t her first line of defense. She had been a Stitch Fix client for years, but was at the point where everything started to feel the same and she didn’t feel like she’d wear the pieces they sent her. She also tried shopping on her own, but everything she found in stores felt either too young or too old for her.

Feeling stuck in a style that hadn’t been an accurate reflection of who she was since before she had her babies, she was determined to make a change. She signed up for a Curated Style Edit because while her style did need an update, she still had a few solid pieces in her closet that she consistently reached for, and they served a purpose for her current lifestyle.

She Discovered Her Personal Style

Since she felt like her style didn’t accurately reflect who she is today, we had to start by figuring out what her style even is. Together, we uncovered what she liked and didn’t like—and not just at a high level; we dug into how and where in her current life those things she likes might work. We explored important details, such as which silhouettes work best for her body now.

Helping clients discover their personal style is the most important element of my process, and it’s one of my favorite parts because it’s often where the client’s perspective starts to shift when they see what’s possible.

She Kept What Worked, and Added What Was Missing

Following our style discovery exercise, it was time to shop! Rather than overhaul her entire wardrobe, we up-leveled it by filling in gaps, exploring new styles and replacing pieces that no longer fit properly. It took away the overwhelm she felt when trying to shop on her own. She appreciated being presented with a curated selection of pieces to consider, including some from brands that were new to her. Reviewing the pieces I had shopped for her, she started to understand how pieces in her wardrobe really can work across multiple facets of her life. As an added bonus, the pieces she ultimately chose to add to her closet all worked in multiple ways with the pieces she already owned, giving her wardrobe immense versatility for work and play.

She Gets Inspiration from a Curated Lookbook

Her biggest takeaway from the curated lookbook filled with two weeks’ worth of outfits I provided? It all clicked; she could actually visualize the style she had been trying to achieve—the one that matches who she is today.

A few weeks after she received her lookbook, she emailed me what she dubbed an “off-script” look she had proudly styled on her own using the components and strategies she learned along the way.

Why A Personal Stylist Worked for Her

If this sounds too good to be true, it’s not. But there’s one very important reason this process worked for her.

She was open to the process.

When she booked the initial discovery call, she was aware of the time, energy and financial investment required of her and she was ready to invest. Having the right mindset and truly being committed to making a change is what differentiates clients with successful outcomes and a transformed personal style, from those who just aren’t ready yet.
