When Your Style Feels “Off,” Do This
I am really making a conscious effort to lighten up on the doom scrolling, especially in bed at night. I know it’s impacting my sleep, and yet…
The other night while mindlessly scrolling, I came across a reel with a voiceover about the month of August—new beginnings, reflecting on your journey, appreciating your growth and staying hopeful for endless possibilities that remain for the year.
A little woo-woo? Yes. And also—valid.
It really resonated with me in this moment. School just started this past week, I’m living in a new country where I don’t speak the language (yet!), I don’t know many people, I’m trying to ramp up my business after slowing down during our move and my birthday—which will move me closer to 50 than 40—is in just a few months. Oh, and the world continues to burn itself down.
But thinking about all of this ^ through the lens of that reel—reflecting, staying hopeful—helps shift those feelings of immense overwhelm and hopelessness into something closer to peace and acceptance.
And I realized, this is also totally applicable to how I feel about my style right now.
Last month, I shared what I wear when I don’t know what to wear, which is something I’m experiencing at the moment. Although I typically experience a style shift this time of year—ready for fall styles but still living summer weather in Austin—it’s undoubtedly been exacerbated by our move.
So more than ever, I’m focusing on pausing to reflect before making any changes to what’s in my closet.
If this resonates, I encourage you to start here, too. When your style feels “off,” it’s often less about needing new and more about approaching what you already own in a new way.
That’s why I created 30 Days of Style, where I take what’s already in your closet and create a month’s worth of outfits—yes, 30 outfits—for you, based on your lifestyle and your body as it is today. You’re relieved of panic shopping and questioning your outfits—what I like to think of as style spirals. It’s perfect for this in-between season when you don’t necessarily want to buy new pieces but you absolutely want to feel put-together.
If you’re feeling that same style-in-transition energy as we close out August, this service is for you.
My schedule is currently open for new and established clients, booking all services. I’d love to see your name on my calendar this season!
